About The Flaherty Swimming Pool

The Flaherty Swimming Pool
... is operated and staffed by the Boston Centers For Youth And Families (BCYF), a department of the City of Boston.
The pool's youth swim team is also partnered with the Roslindale Community School Council, Inc. which provides fiscal oversight of funds collected within the team and for some of its extracurricular programming.
The Flaherty Pool re-opened on July 9, 2013 with a special ceremony following a multimillion dollar renovation. It is now a modern facility with all new equipment.
A BCYF user account is required to use the pool. Any person can use the pool during declared heat emergencies as noted below.
Summer Heat Emergencies:
During declared summer heat emergencies in the City of Boston, the Flaherty Pool may be open to everyone as an emergency "cooling off" facility during which time posted schedules may be suspended. All non-member users will be asked to sign-in at the front desk. Parents must complete an informational sheet for all children. Children under age 8 years or under 4 feet in height must be accompanied by a parent at the pool at all times. Please do not drop off small children as there are no child care provisions. For specifics please ask one of the pool staff or call the pool at 617-635-5181.
COVID POLICIES WHAN ACTIVATED MAY RESULT IN CHANGES TO THIS POLICY.
The pool maintains a swimmer-to-lifeguard ratio of 20:1. During very crowded summer periods, some swimmers may have to wait to enter the pool, or participate in a rotate-in-and-out process. The staff will endeavor to give everyone swim time while maintaining proper safety ratios.
Winter Closures:
Please listen to area radio and TV announcements for winter weather closures. When the City of Boston closes its schools and community centers, the pool will often also be closed as well.
Storms:
During heavy thunderstorm activity or severe snow weather the pool may close or temporarily suspend operations for safety reasons.
