The BCYF Flaherty Pool will be offering an American Red Cross Life-guarding Module beginning February 20, 2018.
The purpose of this course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services personnel take over at aquatic facilities and traditional pools.
Applicants must complete all class sessions, perform all skills proficiently, in-water scenario test and pass written test
Applicants must complete in-water evaluation before 2/16/18.

- Swim 300 yards continuously, demonstrating breath control & rhythmic breathing (front)
- Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or any combination of both.
- Starting in the water, swim 20 yards, dive to a depth of 7-10 feet, and retrieve a 10 lb object, with both hands on the object swim back to the starting point and exit without using the ladder. Timed event: 1 min, 40 seconds.
- Tread water for 2 minutes using the legs only.
Cost: 16-17 years, certification fee of $35.00.
18+ years, training and certification fee $135.00
